Take Away - Have An Ice Day

Project Type

Photography

Date

April 2023

"Take Away - Have an Ice Day," wanted to represent climate change and anthropocentrism by synthesizing them through a visual metaphor.

The title itself plays with the words: “Take away”, which means both “to take away” and “to deprive”. The disposable takeaway glass, an icon of consumer culture, contains an asset that could be taken away from future generations.

This takeaway glass becomes the symbol of our convenience, inaction and inability to adapt our consumption to preserve the planet. The Iceberg inside is a warning that the celebration of abundance could soon come to an end.

The philosophy of our time is encapsulated in the phrase: "Let's raise our glasses and drink while we still have it." However, the warning is clear: there is no "free-refill" and every sip could leave a bitter aftertaste.

Each glass was used and recovered from the waste at the Starbucks point in Central Station in Milan and bears the name of the consumer, scrupulously noted by hand by the employee. The name imprinted on the glass acts as a personal invitation to reflect and take responsibility.

Each glass-iceberg is accompanied by a relative blueprint in A4 format which shows the name and information relating to the iceberg.
